Coast2Coast for a Cause 2021

We are two students from UConn Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine and this summer we will be cycling across the country, from the west coast to the east coast. For the last 16 years, students from our programs have organized a Coast to Coast for a Cause cycling journey. Our trip will mark the 17th year of Coast to Coast for a Cause, keeping the UConn Health tradition alive! We are incredibly excited to plan our journey and raise money for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp!

A little bit about us…

Alexandra Estanislau: Hi everyone, my name is Alex! I am first-year student at UConn School of Dental Medicine. I grew up in East Longmeadow, MA, and graduated from Ithaca College in Upstate New York in 2020. I grew up in a family passionate for sports and adventure. For the last 15+ years, I was a competitive swimmer, and since the culmination of my swimming career at the end of college, I have found a new passion for cycling! I am so excited to take this passion to the next level and tackle the challenge of cycling across the country with my colleague, June, in support of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp! The chance to explore the country in such a unique way in support of an incredible organization was an experience I could not pass up. I cannot wait to share our journey with you all and make memories to last a lifetime.

June Chu: Hi everyone! I'm June and I'm a first-year medical student at UConn. I'm from Long Island, NY and I graduated last year from UConn Storrs. I was actually supposed to work as a counselor at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp last summer but unfortunately due to Covid camp was cancelled. That said, I'm super excited to support this camp in a different way this year! I don't have much experience biking or camping (yet), but I love to travel and go outside so I'm super excited for this trip! Outside of school, I enjoy roller blading, playing frisbee, hiking, reading, taking pictures, finding new music, and spending time with my cats and friends and family.

A little bit more about The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp…

Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is dedicated to providing "a different kind of healing" to seriously ill children and their families through a variety of year-round programs. The Camp delivers fun, friendship, and a healthy dose of mischief through this its signature summer program and weekend sessions at the Camp facility in Ashford, CT, as well as outreach to hospitals, clinics, and communities across the Northeast. All services are free of charge.

Please help us reach (or even exceed!) our goal. With your generosity, we can all share in the joy of knowing that we are helping to provide "a different kind of healing" to children and families coping with serious illness.
