Casey's Fundraising Page
Welcome to my fundraising page! I'm running Ragnar Relay Cape Cod and fundraising to support the mission and programs of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is dedicated to providing "a different kind of healing" to more than 20,000 seriously ill children and family members annually - all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn., in more than 40 hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities, and through other outreach activities across the Northeast. All services provided by camp are completely free, so all dollars donated go directly towards providing these services for campers and their families.
On a more personal note, I first became involved with camp as a student nurse in the Summer of 2017, and in this one memorable week I discovered something truly special. I returned a year later to work the full Summer as a camp nurse. During my months living on camp, I learned that the "something" I had found a year prior was, indeed, magic. Camp is a place where kids can leave behind their daily worries and just be kids. One thing I will never forget from my experience working in the infirmary at camp is the feeling when a child's cry of pain suddenly transforms into one of laughter. The joy of that laughter is more infectious than any disease could ever aspire to be. It hugs your heart and tickles your toes, and all you want is to seize that moment and make it last for ever and ever and ever. It inspires a joy so deep that it is unfathomable and unforgettable. I remember when I was younger, I would sit in front of the fire rereading the Harry Potter series and wishing, with every molecule of my being, that one day I would grow up and find magic. And who could possibly say that this feeling I found at camp is not what I have spent the last 26 years of my life searching for? Who could tell me that, in its truest and purest of forms, I have not found magic in this tiny corner of Ashford, Connecticut?
Please help me reach (or even exceed!) my goal. With your generosity, we can all share in the joy of knowing that we are helping to provide "a different kind of healing" to seriously ill children and family members. You, too, can make magic!
